In term of noise, you should be safe with a townhouse. They tend to be insulated very well, so sound doesn’t bleed through a lot between neighbors. However, it really depend on your neighbor. Some are much more anal than others. If you get anal ones, you will get complaints, which will force you to turn it down. They also are packed in very tightly, so although you only share 1-2 walls and do not have people living on top or below you, you still can see your other neighbors in front and back of you through the windows. So I tend to just close the blinds, which reduce the sun light. It’s a definitely good step toward privacy from a condo, but for the same price, I rather get a SFR in a cheaper area than a townhouse in a more expensive area.
