I think at this point if the government wants to get involved they could make the lender re-negotiate the terms of the loan and offer them a 30 year fixed rate at the going interest rate
from the time the loan was originated. 4.5% or whatever.
This is more than fair but my guess is that they would still not be able to afford the mcmansion they overpaid for and will be assed out.
