I know it well. Many were bought as vacation homes. I also know alot of people that bought them as rentals with the goal of moving to the beach when their kids are grown. There is mild distress there but nothing monumental. If you like it there, get someone who knows the lay of the land to help you find a good one and you’ll be fine.
