I am a South Carlsbad resident and homeowner. I can tell you this is a friendly community that is family oriented and beach close.
I think it would be very worthwhile to take a look here, the community is in my opinion, undervalued with the benefits you would find in a more expensive location.
I am not able to comment on the commute, I travel north from here for work.
