I saw the video of this on the monitors at the gym here in San Diego last night, so at least the national news (Fox and CNN) think it is more than a national issue.
I had been hearing he had his hands up, but when I watched the video (no sound as I was at the gym) he was waving his hands and the only reason they were up for short periods of time was because he was trying to keep them from the officer’s reach. That’s not raising your hands to surrender!!!
It is terrible that he died yes, but he was certainly not cooperating.
I don’t care if you’re white, black, yellow or orange if you don’t cooperate with police then they should be able to use force to make you cooperate.
To me, the Rodney King cops were clearly using too much force and should have been charged. In NYC, it didn’t appear to me they were. I’m sure if they had to do it over again they would, but the NYC incident was an unfortunate accident and no indictments necessary. That’s my opinion. I would say the same thing if it was a huge white guy that died.
