2. morally right or justifiable: righteous indignation.
3. acting in an upright, moral way; virtuous: a righteous and godly person.
4. Slang. absolutely genuine or wonderful: some righteous playing by a jazz great.
Righteous means upright and moral. Definition #3 is the only one that mentions God, and it does that in an example of the definition.
He did not say he had God behind him….he said he had a moral wind behind him.
I think this thread says more about the way you think than it says about anything else.
