That’s how most marriages start. The problems mostly arise after very long-term marriages where assets and benefits have been accumulated over time. Both spouses tend to feel that they have contributed a lot over the course of many years (likely true). Both spouses tend to feel that they have made many sacrifices for the sake of the other spouse and the family (also, most likely true). But when it comes time to divide up the things that both people feel that they own 100% (because most people don’t mentally separate things when they’re married since both contribute complementary things that are seen as benefiting the family as a whole), that’s when the trouble starts.
