There’s one thing I don’t understand about this conspiracy theory. Do these guys believe that Ann Dunham wasn’t his mother? If they don’t, where was Barack Obama born, in their opinion? Is there evidence that his mother got a passport (let alone plane tickets) that allowed her to travel outside the U.S.? Recall that she was 18 at the time. And even if she were stupid enough to go on an extended vacation abreod during the third trimester, bringing a newborn baby into the country had to involve jumping through legal hoops, like registering his birth at the local consulate. Is there any evidence that any of that happened?[/quote]
I agree with the comment earlier. This video is way too tabloid-esque. And every time Gibbs speaks on any subject he is just too painful to watch.
You are confused about the “conspiracy” theory. I think I can help you out. Forget the theory. Forget about how old his mother was, which hospital he was born in, and whether or when his mother was ever in Kenya around the time of his birth.
Obama can do one thing right now – for $29.95 plus shipping and handling – that will put an end to all this crazy talk: allow any one of two dozens plaintiffs in as many states to simply request his b.c directly from the Sec’y of State of Hawaii. What harm would this cause the administration? That is the question I would like an answer to, and it is a question that I have never received an answer to. And I am just not convinced that this is a “nutjob” request. I, for one, have never been called a nutjob by anyone who has been personally acquainted with me, and I’m sure if my employer suspected that I was a nutjob I would not have been put in charge of their West Coast division with an operating budget that is tens of millions of dollars. So I think we need to be careful with the “nutjob” label, as reasonable minds can and often do differ.
If Obama allowed his detractors to take the action above rather than spending so much time, money and effort in courts fighting this issue, and if the birth certificate that is produced independently by the Sec’y of State (and not by the Obama campaign or the White House) states that Obama was born in Hawaii, then the “conspiracy” theorists have no case whatosever, and if they continue to complain that he is illegitimate, then they are truly nutjobs. You certainly won’t ever hear me bring the subject up again if I see this kind of evidence.
But at this point it seems too early to label anyone a nutjob since the evidence that has been produced by Obama is so problematic because it was not produced by a governmental entity. Consider this: if I am applying for a jumbo loan today, I will need to provide proof of my income and assets. Now, what form will that proof take? Will the lender simply take my word for it? Luckily, banks are prudent enough today to require such proof from independent, non-interested sources such as my employer and my bank. Because I think we all know what happened when banks took people at their word. But it simply will not do for me to assure a lender that I have worked at my company for 10 years and that I have plenty of cash in the bank. Understandably, they realize that not everyone can be trusted. When I applied to the CA bar they didn’t allow me to go home and fingerprint myself and send the prints in with my application. Instead, I was required to go to a police station and be fingerprinted, and they sent them directly to the Bar. These aren’t perfect analogies, I know, but I hope you’ll get the idea here. We operate in a society in which no one takes us at our word for major purchases, benefits, insurance, etc.
Banks (wisely, now) do not trust loan applicants to be truthful, and the CA bar is similarly cautious. So why would we assume that an elected official justifies trust that a loan or bar applicant does not even receive…?
Now, pardon me while I go buy a nice, stiff scrub brush. I’m sure I’ll need it after the tarring and feathering I will receive on this board 😉
