That is one way to look at it.
The other way to look at it is that at about 50% of popular vote, Obama is doing about as good as other re-elected presidents in recent history
For example
Clinton (1996) – 49.2%
Bush (2004) – 50.7%

Interesting data. I didn’t know it was that close for past reelected presidents as well. I wonder why?
Secondly, why is there such a big discrepancy between the popular vs electoral votes? If it’s due to demographics, would it mean the Republicans are done for unless they start to change their platform? Based on what I heard from various news channels, it seems like the Lantinos and Black votes in some very key state really made a huge difference.
