One little “tweak” — those other areas may be in the same High School District, but not in the same school district as far as K-8 is concerned. R Roger Rowe school has a very specific boundary and in some cases you have to carefully check your APN number with the school. Interestingly, there are some places out in Elfin Forest that go to the school, while some properties a mile away don’t.
On the “can’t put your finger on it” thing, I always felt that you are enjoying a nice drive through the Ranch and it is pretty and landscaped and there is lots of vegetation and trees, and then bam, you are hit with stark reality that San Diego is really a barren desert, and then you arrive at the Cielo gate.
Sorry – yes, up to 8th grade it’s not the same school district. I forgot that that was an issue. Still (very) good schools, though. The 6th grade class at Ashley Falls school last year was about 80 kids (in three classes) – about 600 altogether in the school, so not huge. CVMS, however, is enormous.
The word that I would use to describe the area that Cielo is in would be “gulch”. Maybe RSF Gulch. Not surprising that they didn’t go with that one.
