I would go in April for the best weather. Any week but Spring Break, where planes will be more expensive. It will be warming up then but not too hot. Inland, tornado season starts the beginning of May.
Of course you might want to see what hot and humid feels like. It that case, I would go in July or August to get a feel for what it’s like. Be sure to go out to the gulf to feel the sand blowing around your ankles and knees during hurricane season :=}
