Watching an old party hack (and backroom dealer extraordinaire) like John Boehner get all teary-eyed whilst talking about the “will of the people” would be funny, if it wasn’t so inexpressibly sad.
The GOP will adopt the Reagan 1980 playbook and shithammer Obama on jobs and the economy. I agree with poorgradstudent’s assessment on Huntsman and his qualifications, but all the GOP needs to do now is bang away on J-O-B-S and ride it through the election.
The coming news on jobs, economic growth and wages is looking even worse and Europe hasn’t imploded yet. Once that happens, the GOP will point there and say, “See, the Euro-socialist model that Obama is enamored with has collapsed!”. It isn’t true, but it won’t matter.
If you research the tail-end of the Carter presidency, he was actually beginning to “get it” and put forth meaningful programs (the huge Reagan defense buildup actually started under Carter), but it was too little, too late and the GOP and Reagan played Carter beautifully.
