Can’t see any self respecting politician supporting a decrease in education funding or loan availability. On the surface it just sounds bad and he will be taken to the woodshed during an election.
Of course there is a big political component as to what messages receive grant and fed funding. But I’ll let that issue alone for now.
Look at the stacks of applicants to all colleges! There is so much demand I don’t see any price adjustment anytime in the next decade. And unless you become self-employed you need the degree to be considered in corporate or gov jobs.
I could see a new school model that teaches the fundamentals and integrates real work experience into the program so graduates can immediately generate revenue for their employer. This would include working closely with industry. Similar to what Cal Tech and JPL have now.
