The cops were on standing orders to pickup anyone white two blocks North from the Fremont Strip. You were A. Lost Tourist or B. Looking to score. That was a bad area back then… Still is… Just that the cops will “do a little tap dance on your head” if you come south out of those neighborhoods.
Believe me… There is nothing in the movie Casino that is exegarated.
But as for the Comps. It is one of the things my dad used to do. Before it was based on knowing the guy/gal having a good relation with them… Knowing how much the guy may or may not drop on a table and how good he was to your staff. And the computation was all done in his head and on a hand shake.
Now… They literal do a cost analysis on what you have lost and what you deserve for losing that much… Unless you are the type of guy that may or may not lose millions in a joint a year. Those guy are the only ppl now that are catered to. Joe Nobody gets a Meal Comp if that.
I think there was a guy portrayed at the begining of Casino (may have been another Movie) who was killed. Japenese Yakuza. My dad knew this guy and would tell me stories about how he was a king in this town. This guy was known to drop millions in days playing Bacarat. He once played almost 3 days. When that guy came to town everything was a Comp. No questioned asked. And anything… Girls, Drugs… Whatever… The casino had ppl that had “hookups” legal or whatever…
Shit. When I grew up there they had two dollars buffets that were excellent! Now? Everybody has there hand out… Sad what that town has become.
