CA Renter, I think you and davelj are speaking at cross-purposes. He is hypothesizing that the majority of women who want kids also want to be supported financially by the father.
When you speak about how it’s justified for women to get support, because child-rearing is expensive, you’re actually arguing in support of his hypothesis.
Yes. You beat me to it.
Okay, so then why do you think women should shoulder the entire responsibility of raising and financially supporting all the children? Are men supposed to do anything, anymore?
Let me be clear: I do NOT “think women should shoulder the entire responsibility…” Where on Earth did you get that idea from my posts? (I’m baffled here.) Yeah, men are supposed to help mothers support the children they breed. My point is that fewer men should be breeding… for that very reason.

If men don’t want to get married, don’t want to have children, and don’t want to spend money on women; exactly why would a woman commit herself to a monogamous relationship with him — again, especially during the 10-15 years that she has the greatest opportunity of finding a man who DOES want to get married and have kids (assuming that’s what many women are looking for)?
That’s my point: A woman should NOT commit to a monogamous relationship with a man. Just as a man should NOT commit to a monogamous relationship with a woman. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander. Monogamy is a social construct that defies human nature. Neither gender should buy into such an obviously bogus deal.
The problem is that the absence of monogamy is more harmful to women because women will generally take on the role of caring for children while men wander about screwing around. (As we see happening more and more in today’s culture.) And it’s hard to care for kids and bring home the bacon at the same time. Not impossible, but difficult.
