My venture into oregon was about 2-3 years ago, when prices just started to shoot up in oregon around the portland area when CA prices were already insame. We looked around, and considered to buy a place up there for around $350k-$400k, mainly as an investment (though I wouldn't mind spending some vacation there too). Unfortunately, we couldn't get the numbers to work out including the down we wanted to put down, plus we didn't want the hassle of an out-of-state rental, so we ended that. Also while home cost was a lot lower than CA, so were employment and salaries (fewer households broke the $100k mark there). So we just couldn't get the numbers to work out.
I just remember visiting a few Legend Homes SFH, and they were pretty nice for tract homes. It's sort of disappointing to see this builder go under.
Oregon (portland area) still is attractive to me for the purpose of it's near big industry (intel, nike, etc). Also, I could imagine myself living there for a short period of time. I can't imagine myself in NV and AZ frankly.
