Today, less educated, working class Whites, especially in the Heartland and the South, feel power slipping from them. Immigrants from Asia, Eastern Europe and other parts of the world are entering the best universities, or they come already educated and professionals. The Germans, Japanese, Koreans, and Chinese own and operate factories that employ the locals.

While I agree that “white Americans” rightly feel power slipping from them, I don’t think it has anything to do with the nationalities you’ve mentioned above. IMHO, “white Americans” have been sold down the river by their very own — the corporate/financial elite (almost always white). What “white America” resents is **cheap labor** stripping their jobs away, no matter what color or ethnicity.
I haven’t heard anyone say they feel threatened by the “superiority” of people from other nations, but they do feel threatened by those who will do similar work for a tiny fraction of what Americans have been making. More than anything, in this country (especially “flyover country”), what you’ll hear people complain about are the illegal immigrants who pose at least as great a threat as people from overseas. Most white Americans don’t resent foreigners who come here and employ Americans; this has been going on for a long time, without any problems. The conflict isn’t about the “quality” of foreign labor, but the price of it. American labor cannot compete with the wages made by those in third-world nations, and THAT is at the heart of this “xenophobia” you speak of (and I’m just quoting you, as I don’t believe most Americans are “xenophobic”). What you call “xenophobia” is a logical response to a very real threat to their way of life. You can’t address the “xenophobia” unless you address the root causes of it — and it has nothing to do with white men being afraid of having their women “stolen” from them by black (or, insert your choice of race/ethnicity here) men.
