You won’t be able to tell it was badly maintained if they spend some money to update it (new paint, new roof if needed, new appliances, new landscape).

Of course I add up the expenses. It’s part of the budget every month. I don’t consider it as restoring my house but more of upgrading/customizing. My house was livable when I bought it. Even if I buy a $1M house in CV, I would still be doing the same. I have a thing about customizing and I haven’t seen any house that has EVERYTHING I like, not even a $5M house.
