you continue to hold those you disagree with politically to a higher standard than those you hold common cause with.
Yes, I do. And for the simple reason those I disagree with have themselves set their own standards.
For example, I understand that people have personal issues or weaknesses that they need to deal with. Progressives generally believe that we need to be accommodating and understanding of people’s circumstances.
Conservatives (such as Christine O’Donnell) are black-and-white, morally rigid. They believe that masturbation and pornography are sins. Financial mismanagement should be punished. They should be held to their own standards.
I have no problem with a liberal who masturbates. But I can’t forgive a conservative who does the same.
Brian: Two things. First, make sure, when you use the term “conservative”, that it actually applies to someone who is conservative. I don’t confuse “liberals” with “Leftists”, as the two are very different. O’Donnell is NOT a conservative. O’Donnell is a lunatic moron.
Second, stop talking around things by using the same rigidity you accuse others of. You act as though all “progressives” (and I put that in quotes because I honestly believe you have no idea what a “progressive” truly is, nor do I think you have a full grasp of the history behind the Progressive Movement) are open, honest and forthright, while everyone on the right is nothing other than a homophobic, illiterate, misogynistic bible thumper.
Pelosi IS a hypocrite. She’s self-serving and a liar, as well as cunning, vindictive and power hungry. In other words, she’s a politician. Regardless of party, ideology or background, all politicians are the same, to lesser or greater degrees. You won’t admit that, however, choosing to believe that your side is “right” and the other side is “wrong”. Always. So how does that create a climate for change, and debate and discourse? That’s actually a rhetorical question, so you need not answer.
Little piece of historical trivia for you. Did you know that German soldiers in WWI marched into battle wearing belt buckles that said “Gott mit uns” (“God is with us”). Yup. Something to think about as you bask in your moral rectitude.
