Have you updated to 4.0.1? It seemed to speed things up for me. Also do a hard-reset to clear your cache and tmp files. Hold down Home + Power simultaneously for about 6 seconds (ignore “Slide to power off”) until you see the silver Apple logo then release the buttons.
Like any computer, the iPhone needs to be “rebooted” once in a while.
Apple products have just as many bugs as Microsoft products do/did. And Microsoft software run on a hardware from a multitude of computer makers.
Regardless of problems, in the end, it’s design, price, and user-friendliness that win out.
Price wise, the iPhone is subsidized by AT&T so the consumer is not paying anymore by choosing the iPhone. So why not use the best when someone else is paying for it?
Honestly, after 2 years of using the iPhone you can put it on Craiglist and eBay and sell it it for your purchase price or more. Who can say that for any other cell phone?
Classic…
First of all, I write software for a living so I’m a little more saavy than your typical stupid computer user–although I’ll admit that I probably should have done some due diligence and done a search on 4.0 upgrade issues with the 3G. Silly me…I figure: Apple makes the hardware, Apple makes the software…it should work because they would have tested it.
Secondly…we paid FULL PRICE for this phone…it was not subsidized AT ALL. I had just started a 2 year contract with a windows mobile phone on ATT and won a bet with a friend of mine and he had to buy me an iphone. Since I didn’t qualify for an upgrade, he paid the full boat for this one ($600).
Thirdly…I’m not eligible for a two year upgrade for a couple of months so if I wanted a new phone NOW I’d still have to pay full price.
And, as much as I’ve loved my iphone, having it run 5x slower makes it suck as bad as any other phone I’ve ever had. Some apps either crash outright or take more than a minute to start up. It’s like watching paint dry.
Lastly, upgrading is a PITA for me because I run Linux. I’ve had mixed success trying to upgrade using a Windows XP VM because of the way the phone switches USB identities during the upgrade cycle. 2 out of the 3 times I’ve upgraded the OS I ended up in the Apple store with a bricked phone that they had to do the upgrade on.
Oh, and you’d have thought that when I was standing there in front of the Genius bar that the guy might have mentioned “you know, this upgrade runs slow on this model of phone”. Nope..not a peep.
Now with their antenna issues…just goes to show that Apple isn’t the be all end all that the fan boys all think they are. They screw up as bad as MS..and frequently (don’t even get me started on some of the hokey BS that I’ve encountered with itunes upgrades).
