BG, are you aware that Torrey Hills area would be more ideal than UC with relative distance and traffic to UCSD? According to Google map, going from Torrey Hills to UCSD’s North parking will be ~4-4.5 miles (mostly freeway and you get the benefit of using the bypass), while going from west end of UC, it’s already at 5 miles. If you go from east end of UC, it’s closer to 8 miles. Also, in the morning, traffic goes North and in the evening, traffic goes South. While, the bypass is usually clear until you pass the Carmel Mountain Exit. So, just talking strictly distance and commute, Torrey Hills is a better area.
yellowS2K, have you looked at Sorrento Valley (92121)? You can get 2900 sq-ft houses for low to mid 700s. If you’re OK w/ UC school, then you’d be perfectly happen w/ Mira Mesa’s school. In term of commute, Sorrento Valley would be a breeze ~4 miles door to North Parking as well. However, you would only need to hop onto the freeway and exit in the next exit. If the freeway gets congested, you always have a local road option: http://goo.gl/maps/gZs3. This road doesn’t have a lot of lights either, so it should be a breeze. I live about 5 minutes east and it took me ~15 minutes door to North Parking, so from Sorrento Valley, you should have have issue with getting there w/in 10 minutes.
