I agree much of Texas is nothing like Nor Cal, but I think Austin is (at least the Marin County/Berkley area I grew up in): About the same amount of rainfall (33 inches), an eclectic mix of hippies, high tech, and students, lots of trees and green and lakes and rivers, and a genuine social awareness and character.

Yes, bake, demographically, Austin may have become similar to Marin Co or Berkeley (Contra Costa Co) in recent years, lol, but I think the comparison ends there. The “green” you are referring to is NOT redwoods, various pines and moss but low-lying nut and other deciduous trees and very tall wild grasses, with various insect and critter life in there :=]
Edit: And don’t some of the rivers and lakes have a “brown” look to them, due to the red clay in some areas?
