My paternal GF stayed in asia, but he got a PhD (cheap), raised 6 kids, had a 5 plex house in a nice area.
he lacked consumer goods but he had a great career
and great life.
my maternal GF came here after the war as a state employee in meat inspection, he bought a house, raised 5 kids, had a disabled wife, died in a hospital.
my dad had 5 kids, decent houses, paid very little for medicine, never had health insurance.
me no kids, cheap apt, some cool toys,
but i’ve never been able to afford a house.
the prices are astronomical.
my dads first house was 14K, my first car cost that much and it was a chevy.
Dad started 4 companies but could always work as a programmer.
