Why would it be a mistake? There’s nothing wrong with learning new stuff and expanding your horizon and area of expertise. In an engineering profession, you would want to be given these type of opportunities vs being put in a corner doing the same stuff over and over and over again. This youngster is just lazy and not RTFM.
