Afx: I had a couple of Mexican girlfriends when I was a teenager and was generally referred to by them and their families as “Anglo”.
I also noticed the ease with which my presence was accepted and with no false attempts to make me feel “welcome”. The sense of being welcome was genuine and unforced.
On the other hand, I’d watch white parents (including my own) fall all over themselves to be “welcoming” to someone of color and it was generally pretty embarrassing.
