If some kid at a college can replace me at work for 1/2 price of what my employer pays me, by all means the employer should do it. Because it wouldn’t make any sense not to.
no, that’s going too far and too fast. we have a social contract, to specialize our skills in order to live in an industrialized nation. we are no longer a nation of self supporting individuals. losing a job, losing your skills due to technology or innovation must have a guarantee that you will still be provided for. otherwise, the pace of technological advancement will insure a nation of unemployed or underemployed dissidents. that does not help the stability of the country.
capitalism *must* be tempered with socialism. otherwise, if you want pure capitalism… go to tj. there’s your rampant capitalism, there’s your cutthroat society. if you lose sympathy, desire for a middle class, you lose everything.
edit: oh, how could i miss the easy one, the gimme… this housing bubble that we are all watching with anticipation… guess what? free market, baby, and it’s going to burn!
