Concho makes a good point. It would be interesting to know the full role that modern “refinements” such as high fructose corn syrup play in the rise of obesity and diabetes over the past 50 years. I wonder if we consumed the same quantity but different quality of junk, things would be different. It seems as if everything we eat nowadays is corn — even the meat we eat was fed with corn. We produce a lot of corn in this country, and it all has to end up somewhere — mostly on our hips and asses. All that corn can’t be good for our systems.
What’s better, a glass full of natural sugar-kool aid, or a glass full of HFCS Coke?
