[quote=faterikcartman]A stones throw away.
I have my own opinions about the subject at hand, but the Daily Mail, faterik? Please.
I’m inferring that the comment accompanying the link means that you believe that we have a similar “liberal dogma-spawned generation” in the U.S. that we can expect to be inspired by their U.K. counterparts. Yes?
There’s no shortage of published material available out there to those wanting to explore what might be the causal factor in the British rioting. Is it really productive to start a thread with an opinion piece titled, “Years of liberal dogma have spawned a generation of amoral, uneducated, welfare dependent, brutalised youngsters”?
I don’t want to take anything for granted, so while I believe that you are of an opinion that is closely aligned with that expressed in this article, I suppose it is possible that you are simply presenting an example of “journalism” that is designed not to inform, but to polarize an already widely-separated population. Let me know if I’m not correct.
If you are, indeed, sympathetic to the views expressed in the article, it begs the question: Are you truly interested in an open and courteous exchange of ideas on costs vs benefits of austerity measures, with the possibility that you might receive some facts or a piece of information of which you were not previously aware? Or are you simply trying to get a rise out of some brainless socialists who will unthinkingly wander into the trap you’ve set, allowing you to destroy their weak liberal arguments will a lethal verbal blow?
Just asking.

August 10, 2011 at 4:31 PM #717377Allan from FallbrookParticipantEaves: I’d pose a question to you in response to your posting. I’m presuming you’re knowledgeable about the so-called “Brixton Uprising” in 1981. With that presumption in mind, were you at all struck by the differences between Brixton 1981 and Tottenham 2011?
Meaning, Brixton was largely a riot fuelled by political anger where property damage did occur, but almost as an afterthought. Tottenham (and the attendant other community riots) has been almost completely anarchist in nature, with property damage being at the forefront and the victims being either innocent bystanders (too slow to avoid the mob) or store/property owners whose properties/shops were attacked and looted.
To say that the article in question is simply a piece of Liberal/Leftist bait misses the larger points, as well the key differences between the UK of 1981 and 2011.
Not to be disagreeable, Eaves, but throughout Europe and the UK we are seeing a sea change and paradigm shift of epic proportions and to correctly assail some of the policies and programs, including emasculation of the UK police, is completely in order. You yourself opined on parenting and responsibility and to see these little shitheads running about, looking for nothing other than something to steal, does not make this a “political” riot about “cuts” or “austerity”. There might be something to that, but it isn’t the motive factor.
