the only bigger waste is the viking stove.
I bought the sears OEM branded LG fridge, $600 with rebate,
compared to 1400 for the LG, and, i bought the GE Duel Fuel convection oven,
both are portable, so if i choose, i can move with them, or include
them in the sale or rental of the house.people just went insane, on kitchen remodels,
and it’s cost them their houses now.i splurged buying corian counters as opposed to formica,
but, i figure the lifetime easy maintenance was worth it.August 26, 2007 at 4:40 PM #81410patbParticipantthe only bigger waste is the viking stove.

My granite counter tops including island bar costs about $2500 for 60 sq. feet including pretty color coordinated tile back splash all the way up to the bottom of the cabinets. Since it was such a good deal we had the laundry room done for another $300. We used 12×12 granite squares that were discounted to $5 a piece but the manager gave us for $2.50 because they were the last of the lot,and rustico had the nerve to tell them that is what we would take them for. The tile guy bullnosed them. I know it isn’t the right kind or “high end” but I feel smart.
The installation is very good and has the advantage of being easily repairable if a tile does get cracked(which is not likely because they are embeded in cement instead of laying on plastic shims as most slab installations are). The grout joints are barely visible. Most importantly, my wife and I both love the kitchen and the savings(lack of wastefulness(if that is a word?).August 26, 2007 at 5:37 PM #81415NotCrankyParticipantStill looking for the scratches on our new stove and fridge that we were given a 40% discount for.

Four burners, griddle, Grillevator, oven, chrome top and drop in salt/pepper shakers.
I spent about $2700 on it total and it’s good as new. Gets a heck of a lot more attention than any Viking stove and it’s built better too.

And their customer service is just non exsistent.
Yeah, I’m a man’s man.

I have another contender for Most Annoying Habit of Self-Centered Upwardly Mobile (usually dual-earning techie family) Types with Kids.
They invite you over, without giving fair warning you’ll be tortured by:
1) Their bragging how their 60″ plasma can now surf the web, ‘cause they hooked it up to a PC, which leads into….
2) It can also display the multiple Terabytes of photos of their “adorable kids” from the extra PC they now have hooked to the plasma. Which leads into….
3) Seeing a “a few photos” turns into TWO HOURS of looking at awful photos of their spoiled kids. I’m talkin’ people who could NOT take a good photo on accident. People that didn’t even take the time to re-orient images so people are right-side UP, after their 10 Mpixel camera upchucked thousands of images from their every insipid family event just so you can see each and every boring dreadful image.I bet you know at least one family just like them?
My wife and I don’t have kids yet. When we start (plan to soon) we promise never to torture our friends by showing them thousands of digital images of our kids.
