im voting to ban plastic im voting to ban plastic bags.
also i just bought a really expensive tote bag. $68.00. thats more than i ever thought id lay out for a tote. but its from a bicycle co. i love, made in usa, designed to work on a bicycle, well, attaches to a certain basket, and it looks good. 68.00 tho. sheesh.
am i a sucker for buying made in usa???? mainly i adore the co. and like to buy from them.
I do throw away a lot of I do throw away a lot of plastic bags. A lot of the times I feel it is the clerks fault as they will put just 1 or 2 items in a bag when it could hold twice that.

Definitely earthy crunchy clintonesque.
I use my plastic bag as trash bags. They are small, but I take out the trash once a day or more. Can’t stand smell of trash sitting inside the apartment.

I like it. It’s kinda I like it. It’s kinda stylish in an eco conscious way.
How many men in Temecula have a tote bag like that? Do you ride a bicycle with a basket in Temecula?
I have a couple shoulder bags; or messenger bags, or man bags. No not luxury bags. But I only use them only when I visit NYC. Cooler than backpacks.

I’ve had a few friends that I’ve had a few friends that are for banning plastic grocery bags. But at the same time, they also buy plastic bags to line their trash cans. When I asked why can’t they just use the plastic bags from the grocery stores, they said it “looks ugly”….
It’s a trash can. It’s not meant to look “pretty”.
I try to repurpose my plastic bags. Even that nice “wrapper” bag that wraps they 48+ rolls of toilet paper into one package makes a great bag for dumping all your shredded paper from your paper shredder.

Agree very much with this. Up in L.A., they’ve already banned plastic bags. Now, my MIL, who lives in L.A., has to buy boxes of brand-new trash bags to line her trash cans, instead of reusing the shopping bags like she’s done for decades. That’s a single use with much more plastic because the dedicated trash bags will only be used once, and they’re thicker and larger…so more plastic waste (and more costly), not less.
For us, the city where we used to do most of our shopping banned plastic bags, so when we need more plastic bags (for trash can liners, etc.), we shop in a neighboring city where they haven’t yet banned the plastic bags. If they ban them state-wide, we will have to spend extra money (and it’s usually more than 10 cents/bag, which is what the shopping bags cost), AND only use them once and dump the heavier-duty trash bags in the landfill, instead.
As far as environmentalism is concerned, this ban on plastic bags is a total fail. We should educate people about the benefits of using cloth/recyclable bags whenever possible (and there are many benefits, especially the fact that they hold more, are less likely to break, and are easier to carry if they have longer straps that can be worn over the shoulder), but a ban is counter-productive if the reason for the ban is environmental, IMO.

Most curbside don’t have the right setup, or like ours in OC, basically really only want plastic bottles, plastic tubs, glass, cardboard, paper and cans (the high value stuff.)
Most stores have/had a plastic bag recycling drop box.

We switched over to cloth several years ago. Can’t remember the reason now, it wasn’t alturistic “save the planet”, thought that was certainly a plus.
But we did switch. We have a whole stack of cloth bags tucked away in the trunk. It is sooo much easier to carry groceries into the house in those bags – they hold a lot, they’re sturdy, great handles. I actually get kinda ticked when things come home in plastic (still happens from time to time) because I have to haul it into the house in smaller batches and worry about bag breakage.
But all those resources that we’re saving by not using plastic? We negated that savings many times over by utilizing Amazon for many other purchases over the last few years. The amount of packaging that goes into Amazon deliveries is ridiculous in some cases. way, way overkill. I bet that is the next uproar in the greenie community…

i received my tote. wow. what i received my tote. wow. what a tote.
i do admit to often getting paper bags at grocery. i like them for cleaning the house. the way they stand up.
thats whats great about this tote. its stiff, wide and low, and has a flat base, so it just sits there waiting. patiently. not wobbly.
tote heaven…
yeah 68 dollars is nuts, but i could use it everyday. made in usa. clearly well made of high quality stuff.
this tote is a sign of a better america in the future

I’m sure there are problems created by plastic bags. Problems, as in the plural. Some bigger than others. But it’s not so simple as to say that plastic bags are a problem.
A statewide ban is not the solution. A ban would possibly mitigate some of the problems, while likely creating others to replace them.
California’s ballot proposition system is a horrible mess. A good idea run amok.

Polyethylene bags need to be used four times, a polypropylene bag must be used at least 11 times, and a cotton bag must be used at least 131 times, according to a study by the U.K. Environment Agency.

Let’s see, my wife uses cotton at least once a week…been three years or so now…I think we are on track to hit 10+ years as the bags still look new. We don’t buy drippy meats or similar so we should be OK.
