Thought I’d post this Thought I’d post this off-topic, and beat Brian to the punch…
For those that have been living out of the woods waiting for the world to end… Slater’s the dude that deployed a emergency slide on a JetBlue plane and jumping off with a few beers in hand as his goodbye, I quit, f.you. thing.
Taking the JetBlue flight attendant’s lead, we, too, can stand up to the assholes of the world like he did. When someone gets on your nerves, ask yourself, “What would Steven do?” Here are a few examples of how you can handle everyday situations just like our hero flight attendant:
SCENARIO #1
AT&T Customer Service Rep: “How can I help you?”
You: “I’m already a customer of AT&T. May I get the new, lower rate?”
AT&T Rep: “You’ll have to sign a new two-year contract to receive that price.”
You: “Gosh, that doesn’t sound fair.”
AT&T Rep: “There’s no need to get nasty.”
You: “Ah, I wasn’t nasty…”
AT&T Rep: (RAISED VOICE) “Excuse me, if you continue with your attitude, I’ll just have to terminate this call!”
You: “When did I… Can I talk to a supervisor, please?”
AT&T Rep: “A supervisor is going to tell you the same thing.”
You: “Well, I’d prefer to talk to a supervi…”
AT&T Rep: (INTERRUPTING, LOUDLY) “Excuse me, excuse me, you’re getting nasty again! I’m now going to end this call!”
You: “Before you hang up on me, can I say one thing?”
AT&T Rep: (SNAPPISH) “Go ahead.”
You: “F–k you! I’ve been putting up with lousy AT&T customer service for three years, and I’ve had it!”
GRAB A BEER AND SHOVE YOUR iPHONE INTO THE DISPOSAL.
I keep waiting for Steven to I keep waiting for Steven to be on some talk show. I fully expect to see him capitalize off this. I’m thinking he won’t have to worry about money if he plays this right. Maybe a book, too. Why not.

Anyone who’s flown a lot Anyone who’s flown a lot knows the type of person who triggered his response… Someone who had oversized “carry on” luggage – because rules don’t apply to her. Someone who insists on hopping up and pulling their (oversized) luggage down before the plan was at the gate – because the fasten-seatbelt light didn’t apply to her. I totally get why getting bonked in the head by her bag pushed his last button… he’s been dealing with a*holes like her for 20 years.
Anyone who’s worked with the public a lot knows that you start to fantasize about how you’d quit with every jerk you deal with. I’ve had jobs were customers berated me and cursed me out because their sense of entitlement was challenged by reality. It gets old, really quickly.
Should he have zero consequences… no. He should be required to pay for the deployed slide (about $2500) and for the 2 beers. But other than that, he should be free to go on with his life.
The dude rocks.

What I don’t get is why the What I don’t get is why the passenger didn’t apologize for hitting him w/the luggage, accident or not. I would immediately say sorry. Clearly they should not have been taking the luggage out in the first place. I just find myself shaking my head when I hear about people and their entitlements and rudeness.

jp, spend an afternoon watching cable television. Then it all becomes clear.
What’s worse is that this is the way children are being “raised” today (“Raised” is in quotes because I believe that many kids are either being ignored, or are receiving pit bull training from those that spawned them). Kid does something wrong, what does the parent do? Goes to the school or the police station or the sport field, and immediately gets in the face of teacher/police officer/coach, and starts screaming about how their kid is a victim of false accusations or personal attacks or discrimination. These are kids to whom their parents can’t ever say no. Yeah, “entitled” would be an accurate description.

What I want to know is what happened to her? I mean, isnt disobeying a lighted signal, a flight attendent, and then assaulting him with luggage and verbal abuse a punishable offense? I was under the impression that air rules were now more strict, and this kinda crap wouldnt be tolerated by the airlines or the police/gov.

Maybe they are charging her but not publicizing it, who knows?
But, realistically, I can’t imagine JetBlue wanting to pursue her and risk fueling more bad publicity. Also, although she sounds like a mouthbreather and someone who I would probably despise, I’m not sure if focusing the US media’s attention on her would perhaps be rather excessive punishment for her alleged “crime” here.
It’s the same as that bozo who (presumably) faked a problem with his brakes in his Toyota on a San Diego freeway a while back…
He also seems like someone who I would despise and I wish Toyota would pursue criminal charges against him as a lesson for others, but what’s in it for Toyota other thanmore bad publicity?
