While there are a lot of While there are a lot of whiners… there are a lot of folks with unrealistic expectations of an immediate bounce back and recovery.
I don’t think it’s whining to observe facts. Something Sen. Gramm seems to be in denial of.

Once the facts are observed, one can either accept responsibility for consequences of own reckless greed or whine about the dire unexpected situation and solicit bailouts.
There is just no way a person holds himself/herself responsible for own actions anymore. There is always someone who can be sued for your mistakes. Somebody has to pay – realtors, banks, taxpayers – anyone but you. Of course the realtors and banks are as eager to shift responsibility somewhere else as individual people.
That was the senator’s point.
I vote “yes”.

There are a lot of whiners. There are a lot of whiners. Bail out MY mortgage save MY bad investment. Time to say NO. Time to let the greedy fools take their medicine.

I say true; things are going I say true; things are going to get an order of magnitude worse before they get better.
If they are whining *now*, I hate to see what will do when they are unemployed and gas is ten dollars a gallon.

Gramm has a point. Gasoline Gramm has a point. Gasoline is $8 – $10 in europe, diesel is $11 in Britain. Since it has been more expensive there for many years, they have had time to adjust the size of their cars, how far they commute, their investment in rail, etc. We simply have not yet made our necessary adjustments, so we whine instead.

So do you suggest we should have a chronic unemployment rate above 10% just like Europe, too? I am actually a socialist (I demand high taxation and universal health care!) but I think euro have taken socialism a little too far especially French.
