I have always, desired space between myself and the neighboors.
I have always, desired quietness.
I have always, desired old growth vegetation in and around the vicinity.
I have always, wanted a schtik of land to work with. ie work sheds, painting studios, veggie gardens, swings, poppies and tulips, and swing sets.
I have always, hated look-alike, cookie-cutter, “Pleasant Valley Sunday” type neighboorhoods.
I have always, liked being close to the urban life but have desired to be far enough away to enjoy all of the above…
I vote for the Mt. Helix area.
For 800K+…I’d be just fine for the rest of my life. 🙂

TexasLineParticipantWell I’ll be darned…landlord called this AM and gave me an hour notice and came by to put in the baseboards (6 weeks later). One of the first things he said is that he had fixed the heating duct under the house the last time he was here, a week ago. I didn’t know that so that was a surprise(we weren’t home).
Better late than never I guess.
@EconProf…we did notice some things…like filthy window tracks….but we didn’t really comprehend this issues until we had been here a week or two. Example…cat hair in the bathroom cabinets even though the previous renter had no cat…female hygiene products in the same cabinet…we finally figured out this was from them(the landlord), they had cats, and it had been there since they moved out in ’08. The previous renter was here only 1.5 years and left things the way she found it….he has paint and tools taking up 1/3 of the garage, stating that “the house always needs tools”. He said when we moved in he’d fix the rain gutters before the rainy season and fix the driveway…and trim the pepper trees etc, still waiting on those(missing rain gutters causing so much collateral damage). There is a hole in the balcony door that I could kick a hole in if I tried…promised that fix too. He’s not going to be able to keep good people here, in spite of the “pluses”. Most people want to live in comfort…of course, crack heads are less demanding.
AnyWho…started work on a veg. garden today, removed rouge bamboo, ate an orange off the tree…
…trying hard to save for a down-payment…

TexasLineParticipantI remember the vast “open spaces” between the city and North County along 101/I-5. I though back then that I wanted to live in Coastal North County when I grow up. I loved the space and the proximity to the beach…and no one around. Not only can I not afford it now, but way to crowded. I miss the surf trips though.
Hey, speaking of bars…what about the Stage Door on Crystal Pier? I think it was there more than 50 years, before it closed down the the ’90’s(?). Been there, done that.
