Not really sure why they won’t move it – when we moved, the moving companies would simply open the valve and let it completely drain before loading it onto the truck.
Maybe laws/rules have changed since our last move.
I’d just give the thing to a friend if I were you.
The valves on modern propane tanks won’t let the gas come out unless you have something connected to them. I’m sure it might be possible to drain out the gas but it’s not as simple as just opening the valve.
I’ll probably just end up giving it away like you suggested.
SmellsFeeshyParticipantAre there any other suggestions for bay area RE forums? I checked out patrick.net and the discussion seems to be a lot of BS and smack talking and low on quality content.
SmellsFeeshyParticipantLOL flu. Might as well just shoot the tank itself if you want to really go big.
UCGal: Thought about craigslist but I don’t want to go through the hassle for the amount of money I would get for the tank. CL is such a PITA these days. For every 10 emails that I get maybe one person is actually serious about it and then usually they either stop responding to phone calls/emails or never show up when they say they will.
SmellsFeeshyParticipant
Maybe you can find someone to empty it and then take it with you in your car?
I thought about that but I’d still worry that it wasn’t completely empty. Plus I don’t have a lot of room in my car so I’d prefer to save space for other things.

Even if I grilled every day I probably wouldn’t be able to use it up by then 🙂SmellsFeeshyParticipantThanks for the advice everyone. flu, I know you have ties to the Bay Area so I was hoping you’d chime in :).
I have looked around a lot online for places in Palo Alto/Mtn View but seems to be a lot of really run down cheap places ($1000-1300) or super bling $2000+ places. Since I’ll be relocating I’d rather go with a corporate run place rather than renting a privately owned condo since I would be renting sight unseen and I have a much better chance of knowing what I’m getting that way.
Will look at Millbrae also, although that is getting a little more north than I’d like. It would probably have to be substantially cheaper for me to consider it.
SmellsFeeshyParticipantWhat’s a little zero here and there anyway? Funny that Zillow shows that it would be a 90% decrease from the last sold price.

SmellsFeeshyParticipantYeah, I know that if I moved up to the Bay Area I’d be able to get a lot more easily, but of course there’s more competition up there as well, plus higher cost of rent/owning a place, etc. I was mostly asking about my salary compared to other San Diego companies.
It seems that articles like that always tend to try to make it sound like everyone in X industry is making that kind of money. I would bet that less than 5% of engineers in that field are actually making those kinds of numbers.
