They aren’t quieter now. We installed one and had it removed. They are really loud IMO. Kind of like a constantly annoyingly vibrating motor or engine that never turns into white noise you can ignore. We couldn’t sleep and the frequency of the hum was too annoying to tolerate even during the day.
profhoffParticipantI clearly live in a high risk zip code.
profhoffParticipantWow! I just used the online estimator at CEA. Carlsbad zips are around $250 and Riverside zips are $1030 for the same parameters so clearly the CEA thinks its risky here. Jeez that’s expensive.
profhoffParticipantI think I read tht the Japanese earthquake affected rates! The house is 3585 square feet. I’m not sure what it covers because the policy is very confusing. Allied’s earthquake policy was under $200 a year but that’s over now.
profhoffParticipantWho makes that tall skinny floor lamp tucked in the corner?
profhoffParticipantlpjohnso – wow! i love what you did. what a great look and definitely custom looking. do you have any recos for invisible screens? what about good furniture stores for custom sectionals?

We finally bought the house in May and have been slowly renovating for the past few months. New hardwoods, cleaned and sealed the travertine, paint, and lots of deep cleaning and repairs.
We don’t have furniture yet, but it’s starting to come together.
Above is the Nelson Saucer pendant we installed in the dining room.
profhoffParticipantoh geez, sorry for the stuttering. mac lag…

profhoffParticipantUnbelievable. The state is basically broke, but hey, let’s spend $68+ billion on an ill-conceived, doomed engineering project.
