Good weather and beaches really all thats great here.
I agree- and to me, the prices need to drop by at least another 100k for most folks to buy even a modest condo or home here.

mixxalotParticipantThe number 2 guy at Bear Stearns got axed recently. Looks like Spector at Bear Stearns is behind the MBS security hedge funds. But he is gone now.

mixxalotParticipantWhile the weather is nice in San Diego, it still is overpriced for real estate.
Corrections are in process. I saw some Ocean Beach condos listed 20k less than six months ago.

mixxalotParticipantProof in pudding
and my hat off to Rich and all my fellow piggintons here who forecast the downturn in real estate. I look forward to buy a place in few years when correction has come full circle. I saw major drops in point loma and ocean beach. One condo down the street listed 440k six months ago now the list price was crossed out with a 419k list price so just be patient. I think 200k is reasonable price for the 2bedroom/2bath condo not 400k.

mixxalotParticipantExcess consumption and happiness
I grew up dirt poor but we always had plenty of food to eat and played a lot outside and went hiking and fishing a lot as a kid. Was great in spite of not having many material things. My parents did get me a computer (Commodore 64) when I was 14 and it was a blast learning how to write computer programs in BASIC 20 years ago as a kid and using the 300 Baud modem to get online before anyone knew what the internet was. I had to mow lawns for neighbors as a kid to see movies and have fun but it taught me to be frugal and how to save and wise on finances. I look at spoiled kids today and frown when I see them renting a crappy apartment and driving expensive brand new leased BMW, Lexus and Infinitis !!!!
I saw a major difference between consuming Americans and the frugal Japanese and Koreans when I lived and worked overseas in Asia. They dressed modest, took subway and lived at home with their parents. However they had a ton of savings in the bank.

mixxalotParticipantActually I do work from home most times.
So for me traffic is not really an issue. Except when I drive to the dentist in Carlsbad area from Point Loma. But I will probably find a dentist closer to home in Point Loma to save on it next year. As far as community goes, I love Point Loma area but real estate is even more expensive than Del Mar except for Rancho Santa Fe. I may buy in Oroville because I can get a nice place for 300k versus 1 million (San Diego) and still have a nice big lake nearby to use for water sports.
True its not San Diego but much more affordable, people are a lot friendlier in Oroville and less traffic and very small town.
