Mark HolmesParticipant
I try to use my full name or variations thereof because it forces me to maintain a level of civility and respect for others that is often lacking in the online world.
The forums I frequent that enforce a screen name policy of “full names only” tend to contain the most cogent, thoughtful posts online.
Nothing against my fellow Piggs, who are a pretty smart, well-read group of people. But I have seen some knock-down bare-knuckled flame brawls here.
IMHO we could all use a little more civility in our lives.

Mark HolmesParticipant
I am here to hopefully one day become a home owner.
I am here because I have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and information.
I am here to engage in debate with people who have different opinions than myself.
I am here as a hedge against the echo-chambers of the Internets.
I am here because different people from different backgrounds, ages, races, religions, locations, incomes, political leanings, and experiences have been brought together by a common interest.
Most of all, I am here to learn.
Amen to that, as well.

Mark HolmesParticipant
I’m here because I love living in San Diego and want to buy a house here, but I am confident that house prices are going to continue to fall off a cliff, and I am waiting for the prices to fall to a sane level in a neighborhood that I would like to live for the long term … I find some amount of comfort in the fact that there are other like minded piggs out there that don’t believe all of the realtor (and government) happy talk and understand that at the end of the day house prices above 2-3 times income are not sustainable and will eventually fall back to that.

Yep. My thoughts exactly.I’m starting to give up on the idea of buying now, though, unless prices fall enough so a 20-year mortgage is feasible. I mean, I’m 41 now. Why buy when the house wouldn’t be paid off until I’m in my mid-70s?
