Interesting bit of history, eavesdropper. I knew nothing about that.
I’m still getting familiar with Philly. I’m not there that much so I stay mostly in City Center.

LAAFTERHOURSParticipantI remember in high school that roxborough was touted as a rough neighborhood but as I aged and got to know the city, I realized more and more those claims were a bit over the top. I cant believe they are attempting to gentrify Chester. They have stood up a casino there (of all places). We had to drive through there to get to the airport before the blue route opened. I give them an A for effort in trying the things they are doing.
Oh and before I forget, “Fly eagles fly, on the road to victory!”

LAAFTERHOURSParticipant

…..The last time a Philly mayor tried to put the lid on loud, violent, destructive residents, it resulted in the firebombing of an entire West Philly neighborhood that left 11 persons (incl. 4 children) dead and over 60 homes destroyed….
you referring to osage?
The very one: The MOVE bombing in 1985. Despite the incredible vice grip in which John Africa and his followers held Philadelphia, and especially the neighbors/homeowners (in what was a well-established close-knit neighborhood prior to the MOVE-in), it still tops the list of all-time incredibly witless cluster-fucks.
No kidding – I moved to Philly from Huntington Beach as a kid just before that went down. It left a great first impression on my family. Lets hope the current staff uses different tactics to rid the city.
