La Jolla RenterParticipant
I think it is most likely a fluke that it was that empty. IMO… Most people don’t save money at costco, they just get more stuff for their money.
I shop at costco every week, love the meat and produce quality. Much better than any grocery store in town.
I think consumer spending is hanging in there. I can’t explain why.

La Jolla RenterParticipantUnload the property.
If you had a notion to be a long distance landlord of a 1947 home then you probably would not have started the post. Your gut is saying sell.
Take the money, invest it in a CD for now, maybe pay off some debt if applicable.
If you really want to be a landlord, wait a few years and low ball some investment property near your home that cash flows.

La Jolla RenterParticipantThe more rubberneckers that show up to the auction the more it adds to the hype.
There are much better things to do… enjoy the Beach!!!
What happens at the auction is really meaningless. What the price the properties officially close at is the real story. And we won’t know that for at least a month.

La Jolla RenterParticipantradelow,
You are correct, I miss read a different article. Spending was up 15%.
What does that say about the economy? Confidence spending or Desperate spending?
I guess amex thinks it is Desperate spending and that is why they are boosting reserves to cover delinquencies.

La Jolla RenterParticipantDrew… interesting discovery.
Why would anyone be surprised with the Union Tribune’s sugar coating?
My guess is that Real-estate, Mortgage, and Home Improvement Ad Spending accounts for well over half of the UT’s Ad Revenue. Do developers etc. want to run full page ads next to bearish real-estate articles? Of course not.
After all, the UT is a business.

La Jolla RenterParticipantFormerSanDiegan,
He is self employed in the real-estate/contsruction industry and may have to switch gears. Probably not a candidate for fraud as at the time of purchase, he was doing much better.
Does a 50s self employed person have a lot of hot job prospects in San Diego?
I don’t hire former self employed entrepreneurs. They just aren’t a good fit.
