Don’t get excited about price reductions. Many sellers are pricing their homes $100k over what they are worth to see if the market is hot enough to “bite”, then they get forced into a reduction to get it sold. There is a 900 square foot, 1 bedroom 2 bathroom row home for sale on the busiest street corner in hillcrest right now for $579,000. There is NO WAY any buyer will pay that much for that home, especially with all the traffic noise on that busy street corner, and the tiny size of the home… So that one is a reduction waiting to happen on Robinson. It’s a prime example of how someone compensated for the tiny size of their home and the poor location by over-upgrading, let’s hope the seller gets some of their money they paid for all those upgrades back.
700 square foot condo in Alicante, on 3rd floor with pretty much no views.. 1 bedroom… $359k.. Again a reduction waiting to happen.
Egyptian had a 1 bedroom for $350k… Reduced to $320k. Finally in escrow to a buyer with 50% cash down. LOL No one wants to pay $350,000 for a 1 bedroom AND Pay $420 a month in HOA dues.
djrobsdParticipantBoy did I have fun at Costco this weekend. I got the Ghost Pines Merlot. I’m kicking myself for not buying the rest of them out of the store because the register actually said “Low Stock” when the casheer rang it up! It’s the best wine I’ve had in that price range, ever! Every sip melted in my mouth. The perfect balance of fruits, with a nice aged taste to it, as well as some spices. It finishes very well. It definately stands up well to my $30 bottles of Rambauer and Rosenblum, and at less then half the price it’s a steal. I hope I can get more. Please god, let Costco get more Ghost Pines!!
Second, they had the Cameron Hughes Mt Veder cab, so I picked up a bottle of that. I’m assuming that the Mt. Veder cab is coming from Franciscan’s Mt Veder winery, but I could be wrong… LOL
Finally, they had some great specials. I’m not sure how good it is, I’ve only had the BV Napa Cab, but they had the BV Costal Cab for $5.99 with the coupon, I also got a nice Sebastiani Merlot for $9.99 with the coupon, I’ve been to Sebastiani and I love their wines, so I’m sure it will be good.
With regards to some of the other comments, I don’t understand how anyone can drink a red wine the next day after opening it. I just can’t allow myself to do it, especially with the daily swills. The only way I can is if I seal it with a pump type device so that it keeps the freshness in. To each their own I guess. The bottom line for me is if I’m opening a nice bottle of wine then I’m finishing it, guests or not… LOL
In terms of wine glasses, couldn’t agree with previous posters more, you gotta have it big or you can’t enjoy the wine as much. I’m a cheapskate, so I go for the glasses at Ikea. They look big and expensive, but ring up at only $2.50 a piece or so… A real steal… But if you can spring the cash go for the Riedels. π

djrobsdParticipantPrevious posters comments on Blackstone Merlot, definately agree, it’s great for the money! I also can’t do the 2 buck chuck, but I also CAN NOT AND WILL NOT drink Yellow Tail.
I’m really liking the stuff Chateau Ste Michelle is putting out from Washington State. Their Riesling, which admittedly is more of a summer wine rather then winter, is just awesome for $5.99 at Trader Joes, but they often sell out. With chicken or turkey it’s a must.
CSM also has a more upscale series called Indian Wells, and I got the Merlot on sale at Von’s for $12.99. It melted in my mouth with every sip. Not bad for $12.99!
If you like Chardonnay there is an incredible value coming out of a Paso Robles winery, Martin & Weyrich. Their Edna Valley Chardonnay is very close to being as good as Rambauer’s, and is half the price, at $15 a bottle.
I’m always seeking out value for $$$ in wine, and this is a great thread. While I doubt I’ll be indulging in any $100 bottles any time soon, I do like to plow through a good $30 bottle every now and then, and especially love when I can get a $30 bottle for $15. π

You are correct, I just researched the IRS Web site a bit more, and they are not deductible. Don’t ask me why I thought they were, I guess I had some friends who tried to convince me otherwise, and now I know the real truth.
