That is really neat that RB-Home Buyer and Misheloff got together on this thread. I wonder how many prospective buyers in any given same area are connected here in this way? Sure is making it harder for “them” to pull the wool over our eyes.
RB-Home Buyer, if you have the income to sustain the mortgage and aforementioned HOA and Mello-Roos for the time period you want to keep the home, more power to you. I hope you enjoy the place.
stockstradr– I used to rent a condo in the Summit. Small world! I got kicked out, ironically, when my landlady’s ARM came due (summer of 2006). She and you were lucky, both of you sold at the peak in that complex.
sdrealtor: as far as the idea of “all those tech companies in RB” hiring more people; someone may be but it won’t be the “tech company in RB” that I work for. They just showed ~100 people the door last fall and we are in tight, tight cost-control mode. Sony on the hill has knocked down their whole plant in the previous year or so; and I can’t speak for the other companies. Given the economy I tend to think: nahhh….
No, I won’t say which tech company, honoring my company confidentiality requirements.

CricketOnTheHearthParticipantTwo resources I recommend for scouting out the “good” neighborhoods and the “not as good” are:
1) ARJIS crime mapping, http://mapping.arjis.org/default.aspxThis lets you look at neighborhoods and ZIP codes, radius of a certain address, and more.
2) San Diego Police Department’s Crime Statistics and Maps; I’d definitely recommend “crime rates per 1,000 population”: http://www.sandiego.gov/police/stats/index.shtml
As a reference, based on FBI stats, national averages for crimes (per 100,000, not 1,000) are roughly 5 murders, 31 rapes, 450 overall violent crimes, 3,400 overall property crime (burglary, larceny, car theft and so forth). To compare the SD figures to these, just divide the SD figures by 100.

CricketOnTheHearthParticipantI was really torn up this election because I, like all of you and also like the noted liberal blogger Markos of DailyKos, hated the bailout. Hated hated hated it.
And then Brian Bilbray voted against it, both times. The one time in this entire universe I have ever agreed with anything he has done or way he has voted.
And my Democratic candidate for that Congress seat was livid, because he (the candidate) supported the bailout!
What to do?????
I voted Libertarian this time out. At least I can live with myself at night that way.

CricketOnTheHearthParticipantIt’s not unreasonable to raise the possibility that someone will try, but I do think it’s over the line to bet on it.
And key word is “try”… I am sure the MIB (Secret Service) have had their eye on this possibility all along, and have only kicked into high gear since some of the recent hijinks of McCain’s less sane supporters.
Looking at pics of Obama’s campaign stops, there are always 4 or 5 MIB close to hand, watching the crowd. Having been personally at events with MIB “protectees” (what they call Senators, the President, etc) I can vouch that in such circumstances the MIB are everywhere– on the rooftops even. At one event I was at, there were MIB stationed alongside the escalators and they visually scanned the faces of everyone going up them (including me)… apparently they have leads on certain people and they watch for them to show up.
I think it’s pretty likely, alas, that some nutjob will try (may already have)… but they have a stiff, stiff row to hoe before they can actually get *to* Obama. I think many lessons have been learned since Dallas.
