Love asheville, dont get me wrong … But there is 2-3-4 problems with it …
1. Too many second homers … too many doctors/lawyers from NY or Atl or somewhere … buy somehting in the mountains and weekend there and totally up the costs for everyone else. Yuppie bedroom community dead during the week, and over crowded weekends.
2. Its humid all the time winter and summer as opposed to the rest of NC when its humid only in summer.
3. Scenery and roads to kill for if you’re a biker especially, and they tend to over run the place winter summer, spring or fall.
4. Too far from the ocean if you want that.Savannah GA or wilmington NC or Myrtle beach or thereabouts are better IMHO.
Also Boone NC is nice especially if you like a little snow and winter sports.
Cool.
Cow_tipping.Cow_tippingParticipantI’d try Northern GA southern TN.
Cool.

I know of people who are racist but they typically target Black people. I can also see them targetting Yanks, but as a complete foreigner and ironically very mexican looking, I get by just fine. Never felt NC was racist. Heck, I am thnking of moving to a much more rural county.
Cool.
Cow_tipping.March 8, 2007 at 2:46 PM in reply to: California real estate prices versus North Carolina and Florida #47151Cow_tippingParticipantMy name is not Sridhar. And I am trying to be incognito … so dont dig it up and repeat it.
The steel houses comment was directed at Mixxalot who was planning a modular in chico. I wont randomly toss things at people. A steel house is really much nicer than you’d think and they are inexpensive to build and absolutely maintenance free and resistant to almost any natural disaster.
Bikes as related to Nascar: I have lots of jap bikes (mid 80’s through mid 90’s) that I buy, ride and sell and make parts for. The local metal scrap yards are full of cool stuff for them. I was just saying, even thogh I dont care for nascar, I believe I am enjoying living in its armpit in a sorta pigs in shit kinda way. No fantasy machismo there. I was responding to someone earlier who said racing was a + for NC.
Cool.

I’d definetly give winter to NC though. Not rain just ice and the whole place shuts down and we get to take “snow days”.
However racing I wont give that to NC … not real racing …
IMHO – NASCAR – stands for North And South Carolina Auto Racing.
OK fine I do get to enjoy the benifits of ASSCAR when I go to the scrap yard and pick up an aluminum rail sub frame that I can mangle on to the rear end of a bike and easily be absolutely certain it will hold up my 220 lb ass and it costs me 30 cents a lb … and it weighs … get this … 2.5 lbs. I call that NASCRAP.
Same with the Banana risers I needed for my cruiser. All I had to do was find the 12 mm bolts it needed instead of the 10mm my bike has … very cool if you’re just making up stuff.
NC isn’t quite and neither is SC because ironically these places are racist against blacks and I am Indian. I totally get accepted. I dunno maybe there may be a growing sentiment against Illegals and mexicans. But so far nothing of note against Injun. I felt CA was worse and I thought Boston was absolutely the most racist place on earth against Injuns.
Flame on … :-))Mixxalot: Dont do modular – try steel.

Check out their prices and you’ll know how much better they are.
Cool.

Cow_tipping.March 8, 2007 at 4:30 AM in reply to: California real estate prices versus North Carolina and Florida #47122Cow_tippingParticipantI moved from CA to Charlotte Nc in 2002.
New houses were selling in charlotte for ~55 a sqft in the 3000 sqft range. I snagged myself one in 03.
However I drove around a little the last week looking at houses being built. The last of the cheapish developments are almost finished and about to be closed out. Around these developments are other newer developments where the cost of entry is 100 a sqft and up. 3-4 years ago, you couldn’t find 100 a sqft anywhere, now that’s all there is.
So Ladies and gentlemen, we are now officially inflating a house bubble.
OK I guess we are giving equity refugees from CA and NY/NJ etc a place to throw away their money. OK.
Another interesting fact was, 98-02 house prices in Charlotte went down. That is cos builders switched from stick built to part pre fab areound then. Now, they seem to be doing stick build again.
Cool.
Cow_tipping.Cow_tippingParticipantBut … if it crashes and burns in 07, say 50% to 80% declines YOY in the bad markets, they can take off in 08, till ~2013-14 when baby boomers dump their built in the 70’s shitboxes on the market and it dies again. Just the ticket for squeezin in another boom bust in the time we have.
Cool.
Cow_tipping.Cow_tippingParticipantRising prices do put more $$ in their pocket at each closing. But if they dont tell the sheeple that houses always appreciate, no one will buy the damn things … look around … its not like there is a shortage of them, and once built, they are forever sorta … So everyone will rent or want to rent, and they cat make a killing.
Anyway, soon they are going to realize that if the down turn is short and sharp, they can go back to making the meagre commission they were making and they will throw their weight behind the crash instead of saying there is no crash. I hope that that’s what they’d do.
Cool.
cow_tipping.Cow_tippingParticipantEvidently she read Davidlereahwatch.com and suspected it was true and cried because she had spawned such a snake.
Then he called her and told her it was because that site owner couldn’t afford a condo and offered to sell him one of his …
Of course it was all going well until The liar-eah offered to sell her one of his condos for 3 mill …
Mom’s are pretty smart … so the game was up.
Anyway Its out there on Housingpanic and several other sites now.
BTW have you heard … the Daylight savings time change is going to crash the real estate market.
Its never been changed on march 11th and its going to crash the market.
Cool.
Cow_tipping.March 6, 2007 at 1:10 PM in reply to: Remember the New Paradigm, the Soft Landing and the New Normal? #47026Cow_tippingParticipantI think 7% is realistic for a few months in 07 and then 8, and then 9, and then 10, and then 11, then 12 … you get the idea …
To bail out banks and other financial institutions (freddie and Fannie) the printing presses need to be cranked up. That = inflation. However its possible that the chineese will stay indexed to the dollar and go down in flames with the dollar. lower interest rates = low inflation. Yes I would love that, but dont think the failing banks and federal institutions will.
So we inflate and gas goes up, rents go up, food goes up but all chinamart stuff does not. So its sorta like free money. Wages will stagnate but eventually creep up, so would rents, interest rates will be high but banks will have enough money to tide over the crash of real estate. That would be the only logical scenario … or the least painful scenario. Hyper inflation. Not so bad. Just dont sell your house when we are in it. Rent it out and you might not lose your ass …
Cool.
Cow_tipping.Cow_tippingParticipantThis winter was the mildest on record in a looong time … and that meant people were outside having fun instead of buying a house … see …
Then in march we will set the clock ahead … on the 11th to be precise … that un precented event will create havoc with the internal time clocks of people who will not know that its time to buy a house and cause them to shutdown … like Y2K where planes were going to fall out of the sky … and that willl crash housing … if at all …
Cool.
Cow_tipping.Cow_tippingParticipant2015 … no if we dont see the bottom in 08 and start seeing appreciation by 2010-11 then forget it till 2040. Baby boomers retiring baby … they will dump their built in the 70’s and filled with lead paint and asbestos crap boxes on the market like it was … going out of style … wowee … that tired old cliche even fits …
Anyway, we may see a bottom in 2008 and start a small rebound in 2011 and turn negative through 2040 or see slow drop till 2011 and continue to see the drop till 2040. There is going to be pain … and I aint talking about what can be cured by prep H either.
Cool.
cow_tipping.Cow_tippingParticipantWhat even better is that these people are all in the same house …
Cool.
