Me, too. What happened? I noticed that he’s still on KOGO for his “minutes” early on weekdays, though they have a talk show guy on now during the early hours.
CMcGParticipantmglsharkson–I feel for you.I think it is only going to get worse and that you should consider moving inland. P.B. is not for families, and when we got pregnant, we moved the hell out.
We lived in PB from 1979 to 1986 as 20-something renters. In that space of time, our house was burglarized twice (both times, the front door was kicked in), someone stole our cheap Weber BBQ from the backyard, our neighbor was raped (the guy came through the bedroom window), the gas station on Grand behind our house was robbed and the robber came through our yard with a gun, running from police), I personally witnessed two purse snatchings in front of Von’s plus a bank robbery at B of A. My spouse said, “I will never live inland.” But, happily, he changed his mind and we have been living in peace since then.
If you own, you must have enough money to buy elsewhere in the county. I suggest you consider this option. The older you get, the harder it is to live in P.B.

I was friends with the contractor who renovated it in the mid-1980s (if memory serves) and he wanted to show me his work. Robertson wasn’t there. I remember reading a letter he had framed and posted on the wall, dated in the late 1960s. Some studio was telling him that no, he would not be permitted to leave Europe where he was filming a movie to attend that year’s Academy Awards. He ended up winning the Best Actor Oscar…for “Charlie,” I think. Useless trivia, I know. 🙂
CMcGParticipantAs someone who really, really wants to own in Bay Park, I’m confused. I thought Bay Park was south of Clairemont Drive, close to the bay, Morena and up, and that Bay Ho was north of Clairemont Drive, Morena and up. This property is listed as being in Clairemont, and has a zip of 92117. Bay Park is 92110. Radelow, am I right? You’d think I’d know this stuff by now.
CMcGParticipantI think whoever bought that got a pretty good deal. I grew up in that general area and would love to be able to buy there. Yes, it’s on the corner of Del Cerro Blvd., but Del Cerro Blvd. east of College Avenue (once past the shopping center)isn’t as trafficky as the west portion. Hearst Elementary is one of the best elems in the San Diego Unified School District (I didn’t go there).
Possible problems: It’s just above the Del Cerro Community Center/pool (that might be a plus for some). Also, SDSU’s expansion plans call for putting in a lot of housing in western Del Cerro. That’s gonna make for a lot more traffic in all of Del Cerro (it will especially impact College Ave.), and a lot of residents are very pissed off about the plan.
CMcGParticipantI think Chamberlin’s days at KOGO (specifically, the money in the morning minute reports) are numbered. I just read an article that on September 4th KOGO will no longer be all-news from 6 to 9 a.m. They are bringing in a right-wing talk show guy and will only be giving the hard news headlines and traffic every 15 minutes. Aram will probably be shut out, as well, unless he is paying for his “minutes.”

August 27, 2007 at 11:16 PM in reply to: “short of Charlie Manson moving in — it can’t be any worse,” #81860CMcGParticipantI know the IE is in trouble but I was absolutely shocked this weekend when we made the dreaded, horrible, hot, boring drive through the Central Valley on I-5 from San Diego to the Bay Area this weekend to take the kid back to college. Last year, my head was buried in a book, but I took a look to the east and was stunned by all the pretty-new-looking housing tracts in areas like Coalinga in the middle of nowhere. I understand these areas are in more serious trouble than the IE. Question: Where do all these people WORK? In the prison system?

CMcGParticipantI wonder how far this ugly house is from Cal State. With that much concrete in the front, looks like it might have been a mini-dorm.
