Participant
Congrats on your new (old) purchase, HiggyBaby! As time goes on, I know you will be able to make it just like you want!
And, 20 yo ovens work fine… until they don’t. Many ovens of the “early 90’s era” have “LED readout panels.” Most have undoubtedly “gone bad” by now (flickering portions of numbers and letters
Funny, as I was just responding, our little one slapped the keyboard and it was gone. So, staring over…
Yeah, the LED display is out for one of the ovens (2 stacked). I plan to fix it myself if I can find replacement parts. Had an appliance guy from the manufacturer come out and turns out, they don’t stock parts for 20 YO appliances. But, I’m hopefull I can dig one up somewhere.

ParticipantExactly – don’t use your printer to send subversive, anti-establishment letters….
Printers have been a great forensic tool for law enforcement and the gov for a long long time.
We have an all in one Brother printer (huge!) Paid a lot for it via Costco online and its a great fit for us. We have it hooked up on our network and can print to it from any internal wireless or wired computer. It scans, faxes, copies, prints.
We’ll cut letters/words out of magazines and paste them onto paper purchased in Montana before we send them to the presidential candidates to complain about replublican brain lock during each debate. That’ll show ’em, and they’ll never know it was us!!!
Can I borrow your printer? I have a nasty letter I need to send to the IRS.

ParticipantI’ve only had experience giving my spouse shots with the little micro needles after she had surgery. She got tired of the little stab wounds too, but aside from that, was okay afterwards. Never needed to try other options. I improved over time and sometimes, she barely felt them. Best of luck Flu.

Awesome, many of us are in the same boat – held out for what seemed an eternity, and back in during the last few years.
Its nerve wracking with the economy lookint to be ready to fall off of a cliff again in 2012. But, no guts no glory.
Best with your new home and congrats bubba

Participant
I know nothing about this provider specifically. But one thing that I learned (earlier this year when both my mother, father and mother in law suddenly had health issues that triggered their LTC policies) is this: be sure to understand very clearly what is required to trigger the policy, and how long the health problem has to go on before the insured qualifies for payment. My Dad had a very fast moving cancer (diagnosed in Nov. 2010, passed away in Mar. 2011). I believe that he did not qualify for benefits until 90 days after the policy was triggered. So for 75% of the time that he needed the policy, he was waiting to qualify for benefits (even though he had brain surgery and needed home care from almost the moment he was diagnosed). My mom (83 years old), on the other hand, didn’t have Alzheimers (one triggering event) but had mild mental impairment that made it difficult for her to care for herself. It was a bit of a struggle to get the company to pay benefits, although they eventually did.
One thing, it seems to me, that the LTC companies bet on is that the insured with die quickly or will die before enough time elapses to allow them to collect. I’m not saying that the companies are not honorable, but I’m going to look into the statistics before we buy for ourselves.
njtosd – did the beneficiary recieve the lump sum remainder of the policy? (I know it must be a difficult subject) If the LTC doesn’t activate in the Lincoln policy, the remainder is provided to the beneficiary upon the policy holder’s death.

ParticipantArghhhhhh….. Should have waited another year to buy? Oh well, you make your choice and you go with it.
TG – very literary analogy indeed!
Could it be a government fickle, at first supporting only a slow trickle. Then realizing its folly, and then forcing a Tsumai?

Participant
Interesting article by George Soros.
I think he’s a brilliant man.http://www.nybooks.com/articles/archives/2011/oct/13/does-euro-have-future/%5B/quote%5D
Great article briansd,
Per Soros – take action now Europe, or
take the world into possible depression….“Once the principle of setting up a European Treasury is agreed upon, the European Council could authorize the ECB to step into the breach, indemnifying the ECB in advance against risks to its solvency. That is the only way to forestall a possible financial meltdown and another Great Depression. —September 15, 2011”
Germany essentially needs to see the benefit in the Euro, and move away form its protectionist behaviors of late.

Participant
If she is looking at single premium then it is still worth getting quote to see how much LTC & death benefit that MoneyGuard Reserve offers. I did notice that single premiums offer money back guarantee regardless of issue age, but they do put the age 65 restriction on flexible premiums.
“Lincoln MoneyGuard® Reserve Plus has a money back guarantee, through the Enhanced Surrender Value Endorsement (ESVE) available at issue on all single premium policies and flexible premium policies for ages 35–65. The amount received will be adjusted for any benefits paid and/or any loans and withdrawals, it may have tax implications. See Endorsement for complete terms and conditions.”
Other options are Universal Life or Whole Life Policies with LTC riders on them but the ULs will have little to no cash surrender value in case they needed the cash for other reasons. Hartford, Genworth, John Hancock, Protective, & Nationwide all offer these types of policies. Have agent get quotes from a couple of these carriers also, but my guess is that they won’t offer much more in death benefit & LTC benefit than MoneyGuard and they certainly don’t have the money back guarantee.
You are right that the guarantee is only backed by the insurance company but Lincoln Life has a pretty good history & reputation. She also needs to hurry up and make a decision because all of these only issue to age 80 when using the LTC benefits. Might be smart to start underwriting process with Lincoln National Life to make sure she qualifies, and then she can make decision to go forward or not. No out of pocket costs if she decides not to accept the offer.
ljinvestor,
One big part of the plan was something like – pay $50K up front, get $91K in total payments made to LTC provider. How would that pencil out? Does the plan need to simmer without deductions for some time to allow the $50K to be invested? What if the investment vehicle used for that fund does poorly, I assume the $50K could drop, and the other ~ $41 K would not materialize?
Thanks again
September 14, 2011 at 1:35 PM in reply to: P&G’s Hour Glass Strategy: Shrinking Middle Class #729029CAwireman
ParticipantIn other countries, the hourglass economic demographic has been in place for a long, long time. Basically the rich/powerful class including those who serve them consitute the Upper classes.
Then, a non-existent MC. Then, lower classs.
As China and India begin to develop an MC, the US is giving theirs up.
I have heard talk that some upper class folks want the middle class gone, stating that the middle class is just a pain in the ass.
Overall, my thought is that regardless of what the UC has done, the MC itself has a lot to answer for. We all buy Japanese, or otherwise foriegn cars, we buy Chinese or foriegn-made furniture, we don’t dig too deeply into where our appliances are manufactured, and so on. We hire illegals to keep our lawns or remodel our homes. All that helps to cut out part of the very class most of us here are part of. And yet we do nothing to correct it.

Participant
What is her actual age and any know health conditions or tobacco use?
Also, are they looking to put in a specific single premium amount or just pay annually?
My Mom is 80 and turns 81 this November.
Very good health. She was looking at a lump sum payment.
Thanks!
