blahblahblahParticipant
i was having a conversation witha live human who loves guns andwho mentioendwe need them to protect against oppressive govt Imetioned that yes, i too favored that, and that we also need to arm ourselves with bombs and other more aggressive weapons. he looked at me like I was nuts.
i dontsee why guns are good for figthing the govt is logical but keeping plenty of homemade explosives are bad is nutty
seems like if you like the former you’d love the latter.
personally i think they’re both mad as a hatter.
Most 2nd amendment rulings have concluded that the intent is that a person be able to have the same sort of weapon carried by the police *and* that the weapon is operated by a single person *and* is used to defend themselves and their property. So that means no tanks or airplanes or h-bombs which will probably disappoint many.
Imagine if the Jews in Germany had been armed to match the police who came to round them up. The police would have quickly learned to ignore these kind of illegal orders and might have even turned on the nazis. Imagine if West Africans had had the same muskets as the slavers, the slave trade would have been impossible. This I believe is the intent of the 2nd amendment.
As an aside, didn’t some of the guys who wrote the bill of rights have slaves? They probably justified themselves by claiming that slaves weren’t human or some other such nonsense. People were assholes back then just like now.
January 7, 2013 at 11:28 AM in reply to: OT: So if a underage teen drinker gets drunk on flight and gets arrested, is it constitutional? #757306blahblahblahParticipantReminds me of this classic story from a few years ago…

The video doesn’t directly make that point, you’re correct. My point was the video is biased, partly based on its complaining about Obama while not about Bush. Although, really, that it’s biased isn’t important. I think the complaining about Obama and not Bush is just a sales tactic. Right wingers have been brainwashed into hating Obama since before he took office. Throw a jab at him in your video, and they’re more likely to pump their fists, drink the koolaid, and sing along.
You have no idea who produced this video, do you? During the last administration they were called “left-wing loonies” as they were 100% against all of the Bush wars. And before that they were “right wing crazies” again because they were against Clinton’s air wars in Iraq and Yugoslavia. Disagree with them all you want, call ’em crazy or label them tin-foil-hat conspiracy theorists or fearmongers, but to call them “right-wing” is simply wrong.
Rolling Stone did a piece on these guys in 2011, it’s a pretty good read.
blahblahblahParticipant
Ran into some guntards in a local open area. We were Rick climbing. Some were shooting relatively responsible toward other rock.
But then these guntards were just wandering around shooting in no particular fucking pattern. We had to crawl over contact their buddy and get them to fucking knock it off do we could get out
Fucking tards!!!! I truly hope they shot each other or selves….
They perceived themselves as responsible as they weren’t shooting at us, but only in our general direction. I really do hope they have a gun cleaning accident. I’m still pissed.
I ran into some cartards on the freeway. I was commuting. Some of the cartards were being relatively responsible and driving only a few miles over the limit.
But then these cartards just started swerving their 4000lb SUVs at 85mph between responsible drivers in no particular fucking pattern! I had to brake several times to avoid them.
Fucking cartards! I truly hope they run themselves off the road and die…
They percieved themselves as responsible as they weren’t driving directly at me, but only in my general direction. I really do hope they have a fatal driving accident. I’m still pissed.
blahblahblahParticipantMake sure you have your BIOS set correctly for virtualbox:
http://blog.darwin-it.nl/2012/04/bios-settings-for-virtualbox.html
Otherwise things slooooooww waaaaaay doooooown.
VMWare Fusion on a Mac OS X host performs much better than virtualbox in my experience. But yeah if you are building full Android that often you need every second, even a 10% hit will be too much.
blahblahblahParticipantDupe.
blahblahblahParticipantDude you really need to try VMWare Fusion on OS X, you will be amazed at how fast it goes. Not 100% as fast as native but very close, I would guess 90%. The instructions are all native since it’s Intel. The time saved not having to reboot the host will more than make up the difference.
Also you shouldn’t have to build the whole Android system that often. It does take forever to build though.

Honestly, I have a triple boot Mac Mini Server that does OSX Lion Server, Ubuntu 12.04, and Windows Vista (well the windows vista also can be booted virtualized with VirtualBox)….I honestly don’t use the OSX at all, except on the rare occasion i need to write someone for an iPhone app…The Vista is used because in practice there’s some software that doesn’t run on ubuntu…Other than that, I can do pretty much everything else in Ubuntu + work related stuff. Can’t beat the $0.00 upgrade cost of Ubuntu (though you have to tolerate a lot of quirks with it)
Triple boot? Man that’s what VMWare is for! Who has time for booting these days? 🙂
I am always afraid to upgrade Ubuntu because the user interface changes so radically every time I do. “Wait, where did the terminal app go? Why did I do this?! ARRRRRRGGHGGHGHGH!!!”
blahblahblahParticipantI love that it is still double the price of OS X Mountain Lion.
June 26, 2012 at 11:52 AM in reply to: OT: SD Unified Purchases 26,000 iPads For District Students #746521blahblahblahParticipantTechnology is going to have a big role to play in the education of commoners. Among the elites, it will be used very little, if at all. Elite children will be too busy learning to read and write in multiple languages, world history, advanced mathematics, etc… to spend time playing with iGizmos.
The introduction of technology to young commoners at earlier and earlier ages is very important, as it reduces their attention span, makes them easier to manipulate, etc… An added bonus is that well-connected businesses can benefit by selling technology into the captive education market.
June 1, 2012 at 11:24 AM in reply to: How are people dumber than us going to make out with their 401(k)s? #744759blahblahblahParticipantNow imagine what happens when the retirement system fails for 50, 60, 70 or more percent of the population. They are going to be very jealous of your rent houses, 401K balances, etc… How dare those “rich people” have all this stuff! They will demand that something be done, and TPTB will be more than happy to help them — by relieving you of your goodies, of course… They will use sneaky methods, like property tax increases (Prop 13 will not be popular once few are able to afford homes), raising the age at which you can withdraw from your 401K, devaluing the currency, etc… They have a large bag of tricks.
If you want to see the future of the US, just visit Brazil. Huge underclass, small middle class, and a tiny elite that manages the whole affair from their helicopters, private jets, and island getaways.
At least here in SD we will still have good weather!
blahblahblahParticipantHP is simply a gigantic cash pile in the process of being looted by insiders at a frantic pace. Meg Witless is there to supervise the deconstruction and to ensure that the proceeds go to the correct, well-connected parties. As a billionaire, she can be trusted to “do the right thing” by TPTB. For her efforts, she will be richly rewarded (although she hardly needs it), of course. Expect more layoffs, more bad quarters, more outsourcing/offshoring, more bad decisions until nothing remains and the scraps are snapped up for pennies on the dollar by the next corporate shell to be looted in this never-ending game of three-card monty.
I also love it when I hear about these bag-of-human-waste CEOs taking “only $1 a year for a salary.” If a small businessman tries that, he will at a minimum be audited and penalized, and at a maximum imprisoned or killed for payroll tax evasion. But because the CEO crowd are all members in the special elite overlord club, it’s okay when they do it.
F*** HP.
blahblahblahParticipantIf you guys want to be real elitists, you need to do it with élan and spell the damn word correctly. Also note that it should always be italicized as it is a foreign (in this case, French) word.
