Ah, but would they float? (Would they still have residual gasses). I could see them falling into the water though and getting washed ashore on your island, if they don’t get eaten by sharks or picked apart by crabs on the sea bottom. So, an island too, imo, would still need a perimeter defense.
That’s true, but a group of 3-4 people could get by with some concertina wire and perimeter lights to keep the zombies in place while you go for a headshot. Zombies washing up would occur only sporadically, and (assuming your island is not visible/audible from the mainland) you will not have waves of purposeful zombies. I like this island idea and am willing to contribute my efforts to this venture. Who’s got a boat? 🙂
8bitnintendoParticipantAirborne zombies only make sense in one or two circumstances:
1. A non-zombie enemy maliciously dropping zombies on your head: pilot with barricaded door, and somebody willing to hook troops up to static line then infect them, or who can wrangle zombies into jump rigs without getting bitten themselves
2. A bitten jumper converting to zombie in the plane, and zombifying the rest of the load, followed by a panicked pilot dumping them
Either way, you’d probably get a fair amount of “breakage” in the zombies due to improper body position causing chute malfunctions, poor landings, etc. Personally, I will leave zombie paratroopers out of my planning – I am more concerned about the standard shambling zombie threat.

8bitnintendoParticipantWatching footage of the ’95 tank rampage is fascinating. I replayed it a couple times recognizing places in my neighborhood and trying to figure out his entire route.
I’m with scaredy – unless you reload and cast your own bullets or have substantial stockpiles, you will run out of ammo sooner or later. Good idea to have a melee weapon for backup.

8bitnintendoParticipant
Dan: As you wish. If I were to devise an anti-zombie strategy, I would focus on choosing weapons for long-range, mid-range and short-range.
Wow, it looks like I am basically set for a zombie invasion, except I don’t have a battle carbine. Good thing I live right across the street from a National Guard depot… considering somebody stole a tank from them, firearms should be pretty accessible, right?8bitnintendoParticipant
Dan: As you wish.
