8bit: I think we could probably do better than a 70 year old Russian bolt action, couldn’t we? Sheesh, even an M1 Garand would be preferable.
Ha, good point. I just happen to have an M39 and when all you have is a hammer… I’m sure a modern scoped rifle would be a better choice. But the Mosins also make a great club, which would fulfill the melee desires of Piggs! Plus, a substitute paddle if one falls overboard on a supply run.
8bitnintendoParticipantAutomated ma deuces sound like they’d be awesome to witness. You’d need low light rather than thermal since zombies probably emerge the water at around ocean temperature.
Can it be calibrated to shoot high? Unless it’s scoring headshots, it’d have to tear the zombie apart to get it to stop, which could be ammo spendy. If spare manpower is available, having a shift guard in a tower with a reasonable caliber bolt-action (Mosin Nagant?) would be a lot cheaper (.50 BMG is what, $3+ a round commercially?)

8bitnintendoParticipantWWZ was good, but broke zombie canon in a lot of ways. Smart talking zombies, rats and other animals being able to turn into zombies, etc. I appreciate it for bringing new attention to the zombie menace, but I wouldn’t plan to use it as a textbook.
Time to Netflix some Romero, this is making me want to revisit the zombie classics.

8bitnintendoParticipant
Ah, but would they float? (Would they still have residual gasses). I could see them falling into the water though and getting washed ashore on your island, if they don’t get eaten by sharks or picked apart by crabs on the sea bottom. So, an island too, imo, would still need a perimeter defense.
That’s true, but a group of 3-4 people could get by with some concertina wire and perimeter lights to keep the zombies in place while you go for a headshot. Zombies washing up would occur only sporadically, and (assuming your island is not visible/audible from the mainland) you will not have waves of purposeful zombies. I like this island idea and am willing to contribute my efforts to this venture. Who’s got a boat? 🙂
