FLU, bad analogy with cars (I’m not a car buff and I just buy whatever and forget about it). The point is was trying to make is that most Americans are just average with some families making more than others. Incomes fluctuate and households move up and down the income ladder over time.
There is such effect as substitution. People who previously only shopped at department stores are now choosing Target and Costco because of prices. That consumer phenomenon is well documented.
As house prices go down people will substitute one neighborhood for another. Not everyone wants to move up. FLU, you may never live in Chula Vista at any price, but plenty of others who see the good deals will buy.
FLU, from your previous posts on cars, I can figure you would never buy a Hyundai. How do you figure the brand is successful in America? Someone is buying.

March 14, 2008 at 9:49 AM #169399jpinpbParticipantpatientlywaiting – I agree. I have see some deals downtown and I would consider something there, but I want a garage, not underground parking. But for some people who don’t care about a garage will see downtown as an opportunity and buy something there, as opposed to the coast. That may mean that prices might not immediately drop along the coast, but sales will slow some more b/c people will buy elsewhere and consequently, when some people need to sell, may eventually reduce to close.

Vultures can fly
Vultures can soar
Vultures have good eyesightMy goal is to leave San Diego in the near future to keep from being underwater literally – are you with me Enorah?
eccen, do I know you?
I am not sure about that whole pole shift thingy. You know, seriously, I am loving being by the beach. We only moved here from northern ca nine months ago and before that Chicago. I know, hilarious, right? Move out to CA at the peak of the bubble. Oh wait, the bubble’s over, I forgot, LOL.
I do at times wonder what the hell is wrong with me that I can’t/won’t just buy myself a nice little house and land somewhere for like 150k out in the middle of the country in like Wisconsin, for instance. But, hey, I am where I want to be, for now at least. Who knows what the next moment will bring, one of the benefits of being a JBR (jealous bitter renter). LOL. I have options, and I am tied to no bank/fund.
I just got over a long time ago that whole programming bull s*** thing that tells us “If you don’t own a house, you, as an individual, have no value”.
Sorry, vertigo, to drift your precious thread away from what schmucks we all are here at piggington.
