[quote=UCGal]One of my favorite “what were they thinking” houses from my neighborhood is for sale.
Most of the pictures are just fine… but the house itself is the problem. Who puts a doublewide trailer on your roof?
I’m not a fan of the mansard roof to start off with – but I guess it makes it easier to put a trailer on the roof.
My husband has joked about taking pictures of it and putting it in his portfolio… just to see if potential employers even look at his portfolio… because it’s that ridiculous.

Wow, they’re pretty proud of that house (price).
What is the purpose of having a roof like that? It’s definitely not attractive. Is it cheaper to build?

Which part… the shake tile mansard part that goes around the whole house… or the second story trailer looking roof?
Mansard roofs are supposed to evoke Paris… except in Paris they’re slate and on 3-5 story buildings. The way it was done here – (and on many houses in that development.. It’s a 70’s “look”. Like a lot of 70’s styles… it hasn’t held up well.June 16, 2011 at 8:25 PM #704264UCGalParticipant[quote=CA renter][quote=UCGal]One of my favorite “what were they thinking” houses from my neighborhood is for sale.

Needless to say, it doesn’t work on a small (relative to the buildings in Europe) SFH in California. That particular house looks like it had a cheesy, DIY add-on. It’s difficult to imagine it was originally designed to look like that.
People do funny things when they design houses, don’t they?
