At one time Silver Oak made great wines and their prices were justified. They ahve had many changes not the least of which involved winemakers. For the last several years they have made nothing but crap but the prestige and brand equity they created endures among business people looking to impress. When I see someone buy Silver Oak all I can think is there goes some one with more money than wine sense. I wouldnt spend $30 for what they put in a bottle these days.

December 9, 2010 at 8:02 AM #637548barnaby33Participantsdrealtor, I made a deal with self. I said to self, until you buy a place no bigger locker. No more fridges either.
I do however think the wine market is good for buyers right now, especially for older stock. I just got two Dunn Howell Mtn 86’s and had one for my birthday. What an amazing bottle of wine. I also had an 82 Grange and a 90 Francesco Rinaldi barolo. Not a shabby week for wine.

JoshDecember 9, 2010 at 8:05 AM #637553sdrealtorParticipantCheers! I had a 78 Chappelet last week that was still rocking too. Cant wait for Saturday. One of my favorite wine stores has an annual event where the owners come in and tend bar. Late night anything can happen and amazing things get pulled off the shelves. Last year a double magnum of 97 Insignia and some late 80’s Bordeaux’s. Oh la la!
